Puusta rakentaminen ei kuluta metsiä Vaikka puun käyttö rakentamiseen on lisääntynyt merkittävästi 1990 -luvun alusta lähtien, riittää meillä Suomessa puuta edelleen yllin kyllin. Vuosittain asuntotuotantoon tarvittava puumäärä kasvaa Suomen metsissä vajaan päivän aikana. Vuosittainen metsien kasvu on suurempaa kuin niitä hyödynnämme rakentamisen, teollisuuden, energiatalouden tai viennin tarpeisiin. Puuelementtirakentaminen on joustavaa Puuelementtirakentaminen mahdollistaa monimuotoisten rakennusten toteuttamisen. Puuelementtirakentaminen on nopeaa Valmiiden puuelementtien pystytys on nopeaa. Puuelementtirakentaminen on edullista Puu rakennusmateriaalina on jo itsessään edullista. Massiivisen puupalkin pinta hiiltyy varsin hitaasti, noin 0,8 mm minuutissa. Puuelementtitalossa on erinomainen asumismukavuus Puu on luonnonmateriaali, jolla on monia hyviä vaikutuksia asumismukavuuteen.

Partners We are looking for new partners and dealers. Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested in co-operation with us. In the business area our objective is to enhance the use of wood in constructions. The use of wood in construction means to us wood building systems, wood in relations to other materials/systems and use of wood in renovation. When we are looking for partners the main target groups are the professionals in building, such as developers, architects and other designers, constructors and planners but also retailing trade, local authorities, politicians, schools, and media. We appreciate a good understanding about the local market trends and building conditions as well as credibility in the business. We take care about wood working industries joint promotion. To be able to enhance the use of wood in construction is not only a matter of creating interest or awareness of using wood in construction. The key question is to make use of wood the most competitive alternative in building and to produce added value to all parties in chain to make the wood preferable choice in building. Therefore actions to deliver good information and tools how to use wood in construction and/or removing obstacles to use wood are needed.
Wood is ecological Wood as a 100% renewable building material is unique. Wood in Europe is not a threatened natural resource. The carbon balance is positive and the amount of timber growing is more than the amount harvested. Ecological sustainability Finnish forests are certified. Forest certification is a system that ensures the purchaser of timber products that the raw material originates from forests managed in a sustainable manner. The criteria for sustainable management are based on internationally approved methods of forestry that meet ecological, social and economic standards. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) was established in 1999. It is the largest forest certification umbrella organisation that covers forest certification organisations in numerous countries. The PEFC is supported by companies in the forestry sector, many governments, employee organisations and national associations. The PEFC has approved of 17 national certification systems that cover more than 58 million hectares of certified forests. In the near future several new countries will be joining the certification administration. Certification in Finland is administered by the forest certification body, the Finnish Forest Certification System (FFCS). This system covers around 22 million hectares of forest. Nearly a half of all certified forests within the PEFC administration are in Finland. Building in wood is one method to reduce the effect of climate change. The use of timber in products and buildings and its effect in absorbing and storing carbon is conducive to the concepts laid down in the Kyoto Protocol. Part of the carbon in wood is stored in the finished product, such as paper, wooden buildings, or furniture. Newspapers are recycled rather quickly and cannot be considered as long-term stores of carbon but a well-built wooden building may last through the centuries and function at the same time as a storage facility for carbon. Wood products compare well in material life-cycle comparisons In many surveys that compare the life cycle of materials, a building constructed of wood consumes fewer natural resources and causes less harm to the environment than a similar building constructed of concrete, brick, or steel. A concrete element wall consumed about eight times more natural resources than a wall built of wood. During a life span of one hundred years the concrete element wall consumed twice the amount of natural resources as a wooden-built wall. A wooden building, in other words, is more eco-efficient. The degree of eco-efficiency is further increased by the fact that compared to a brick or concrete construction, the major part of the material is renewable. Economical sustainability Wood products are energy efficient. The production of wood products requires little energy. The main part is wood energy which is acquired as a side product from the bark and sawdust when sawing into timber. The production of sawn goods consumes considerably less energy than for the production of other building materials. The production of concrete requires double the amount of energy whereas the production of bricks requires four times the amount. Even though wood products that require further processing, such as chipboard and plywood, consume many more times the amount of energy than that required for sawn timber, the main part of that energy is in the form of renewable wood energy. The production of glass, steel and aluminium is the most energy intensive of all materials. The biggest amount of renewable energy and the least amount of fossil fuel energy is used in the construction of a wall built from wood. It causes the least amount of greenhouse gases and sulphurous emissions. Walls produced as concrete elements consume the greatest amount of non-renewable resources and produced the largest amounts of carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide emissions per square metre of wall. Wood is an eco-effective material, as not only the trunk, but the bark, branches and crown can be utilised. When trees are harvested, the branches and needles that remain on the forest floor play an important role in the nutrition cycle of nature. The raw material for the saw-milling industry can be utilised 100%, either in the form of building materials or as a source of bio-energy. When wood products are removed from service they can be used again and often without modification. For example, wooden doors, window sashes, skirtings and architraves that have been removed from old wooden houses are in great demand at recycling centres. Scrap wood can be burned and that converts the energy absorbed in the material into useful heat and at the same time returns the carbon back to the cycle of nature. Social sustainability Wood is a clean product. Standard sawn goods are mechanically processed, the result of sawing and planning. The material is clean and safe. Boards and logs made from the typical species common to the Nordic countries are considered to meet the best standards in Finland for interior air quality. Wood improves the quality of interior air. When it is said that a wooden house "breathes", it refers to a structure that can easily transfer the humidity in the atmosphere by diffusion and with the aid of the hygroscopic properties of wood absorb that humidity or release it back into the atmosphere. Other gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, can also pass through the material in the same way as humidity is diffused to the atmosphere. Wood possesses this hygroscopic property of being able to absorb humidity in a room atmosphere and also release it back to the atmosphere. (referred to as sorption). In this way wood has the ability to balance the humidity of the room atmosphere and reduce the amount of peak levels. This feature enhances the comfort level of the atmosphere in a building, improves the quality of the interior air, reduces the need for ventilation and at the same time reduces energy consumption. A modern wooden house is safe from fire. In tests carried out, the wooden frame of a building burns quite slowly. When burning, solid wood chars to around 0.8mm in depth. The charring of a wooden beam tends to reduce the speed of burning as the charred surface slows down the burning process under the surface. The heart of the wood can remain undamaged for a long period. The load-bearing beams and pillars in a wooden building do not suddenly collapse. Steel loses its load-bearing property when heated to 450º C which means that a steel-framed building can collapse in a fire. Steel structures have to be fire-protection shielded, whereas solid wood needs no protection if the thickness of the material conforms to the set norms.
Paijanne Timber Frame, PTF System The timber frame is produced at high tech computer driven machinery ensuring precision cutting and jointing. The timber frame arrives at your site pre-cut and drilled ready for slotting together and fixing. Full CAD drawings are supplied and each component is coded for easy identification. Our structural elements are energy efficient with the U-value of 0.35, they are connectable with claddings of brickwork, stone or blockwork. Unlike conventional methods where floor decks are sited on top of wall panels, PTF System provides for floor decks which interlock into the wall panels in a unique manner. This eliminates the difficulty of satisfactorily closing the external wall panels between floors and also ensures an absolutely square and plumb structure free from racking. Problems associated by differential movement are also minimized. The provision of continuous ring beam notched into the head of wall panels much increases structural integrity and virtually eliminates the need for cripple studs where there are apertures.
Benefits of wood Structural expression Natural beauty Easy to work with Good insulation Healthy Safe, light, strong and durable Wide range of engineered solutions Wood is a high-performance material, low in weight, yet high in density, with excellent load-bearing and thermal properties, and the availability of a wide range of timbers, each with its own characteristics, means wood can be suitable for most special requirements. Timber construction is typically characterized by a multilayered combination of different materials which work together as a system to provide optimum stability, thermal, acoustic and moisture insulation, fire safety and constructional wood preservation. Flexibility The flexibility of timber construction methods makes it easier to vary a buildings orientation on site. Timber's thermal efficiency means walls can be slimmer, releasing up to 10% more space than other building methods. External finishes depend on personal preference walls can be clad in wood, tiles, brick, or plastered roofs can be clad in tiles, slates, concrete or metal. Fire prevention Unlike many other materials, timber behaves predictably in fire, forming a charred surface which provides protection for the inner structure, so that timber elements can remain intact and fully load-bearing during a fire. The fire-retardant detailing of modern timber construction prevents cavity fires and the spread of combustion gases. Sound insulation Modern timber buildings readily comply with sound insulation standards through using a layered structure of different materials. Even more demanding standards can be met using a number of different design solutions. Durability With good design and correct detailing, structural wood needs no chemical treatment to achieve a long life. Wood is resistant to heat, frost, corrosion and pollution; the only factor that needs to be controlled is moisture. Timber construction materials are kiln-dried to specified moisture levels, removing the need for chemical wood treatment in interior use. Externally, design elements, such as large roof overhangs and sufficient distance between timber and ground are important.Timber cladding Architects are increasingly turning to timber cladding for renovations as well as new buildings as a way of achieving a contemporary, yet natural look: a timeless elegance and simplicity. Apart from its aesthetic advantages, timber cladding's light weight makes handling and transport simple. Used in combination with insulation materials, it keeps brick walls frost free, reduces heating costs and provides a more comfortable interior. Timber cladding can be fitted to any exterior wall, timber, concrete, or brick. Wooden windows Nowadays wooden windows can be highly engineered components, built to the most demanding thermal and security specifications, with low maintenance intervals and a long service life. Wooden windows have many distinct advantages: they look and feel right, they can be supplied in a number of colours or stains and to a wide range of designs, they are more thermally efficient, they resist cold-bridging, they can be rectified if damaged, and they are made from sustainable materials. Greater comfort, lower bills Wooden houses set the standard for heat insulation, as timber's cellular structure gives it natural thermal insulation qualities that are superior to any other building material, keeping out the cold in winter and the heat in summer. Wooden houses, built to standard construction methods, easily meet thermal insulation regulations. However, with additional insulation, it is quite practical to build ultra-low, or even zero energy houses using timber. Smaller capacity heating systems mean significantly reduced running costs. Healthy living Wood creates naturally healthy living conditions. It is easy to keep clean, helps maintain an optimum humidity balance, helps a room warm up more quickly, and keeps condensation to a minimum.
